As early as 2004, the National Development and Reform Commission approved the construction of the coal indirect liquefaction demonstration project of Shenhua Ningmei Group, and the required 100,000-class air separation equipment also began to be tendered globally. Although Hangyang has become a leader in the manufacture of air separation equipment in China, it cannot compete with the "world giants" regardless of its performance or company size.

"China's air separation equipment manufacturing has been lagging behind abroad. Although we have been catching up, foreign companies always press us." Mao Shaorong, the general manager of the company, is full of emotions: "The Shenhua Ning coal project has given a rare opportunity to localize major equipment. If you miss it, our catch-up goal will be even more out of reach."

On April 26, 2013, Hangyang signed a contract with Shenhua Ningmei, and finally won six sets of design, supply and service contracts for 100,000 class air separation equipment.
